Thank you, F. Scott Fitzgerald

I was so happy to stumble across this image today. This is where my head has been at for years, and it's nice to finally have the right words to express it.

The possibilities seem to be approaching like the low rumble of a distant stampede, and I welcome the anticipation :)

Fast Food According to Lilly

I was just listening to an interview with Morgan Spurlock from Super Size Me via the Food Revolution Summit and it made me think of a conversation I had the other day with my friend Lilly, who is 4 years old. She saw a McDonald's ad and proclaimed with excitement that she loves McDonald's, which is no big news as kids are probably the chain's most desired demographic. However, she surprised me when she said that she "really only likes the PlayPlace, not the food because it isn't good for you".

I loved hearing that not only because food issues are close to my heart, but also because it shows how well her parents are teaching her about healthy eating. I also see it in the snacks they send with her when she comes over, such as fresh fruit and yogurt. Not being a parent myself, I can only imagine how difficult it must be to keep kids away from unhealthy foods, and I applaud Dan and Leslie for doing such a great job! Lilly has obviously been paying attention, and it makes me wonder how many people underestimate how open-minded kids can be. I know not all kids are alike, but I'm a firm believer that if a great example is given, even youngsters can follow suit.

It just goes to show you- it's never too early to teach your kids about nutrition!

Buying this would definitely put a hole in me pocket (see what I did there?)

But it would totally be worth it! This Etsy shop has some amazing hand-sewn felt bags (TARDIS bag anyone?), any of which I would be thrilled to have.

And I know what you're thinking- who would carry such an outlandish accessory, right?

Hello, have you met me?

Dale Chihuly: Glassblower, B.A.M.F.

MILLE FIORI 12 x 56' PLATFORM JUNE 14 - SEPTEMBER 28, 2008
Arguably my favorite artist of all time is this stern looking, roguish man that looks more like a James Bond villain than a revolutionary creative mind who once received a Fulbright Fellowship. I was first introduced to Dale Chihuly's work nearly a decade ago via a PBS special (thank you public television, my $35 donation was totally worth it) and several years later I was even lucky enough to visit an exhibit when it made a stop at Lakeview Museum.

KEN LAMBERT / THE SEATTLE TIMES
From his smaller scale Baskets and Seaforms to his colossal Chandelier series and outdoor installations, Chihuly and his team of artisans have created imaginative pieces that are unpredictable and infused with an almost Seussian spirit. I am always inspired by his use of brilliant colors, organic shapes, and his constant journey to explore the limits of a versatile but fragile medium.

With so many amazing pieces to choose from, it's an exercise in futility for me to attempt to pick a favorite.
